Newspaper Articles

I found a few newspaper articles mixed in with family photos.  Please click on each article to make it readable.

This last article was too small to read if I scanned it as (mostly) one piece.  I had to do 2 scans anyway because the little tail at the end of column one would not fit on my scanner.  It's worth the effort of switching back and forth to read.  What an interesting life Hans Christian Jensen led!

Hello Jensen and Extended Family!

Reminder: The Iowa Jensen Reunion date has been changed from  the weekend near July 4th to the weekend of July 15th since that is one week before the Ohio reunion. It makes it easier for familes who are attending both reunions. Thanks, Brenda, for the great idea!

The Jack Jensen family (Gary, Al, Dale and Brenda, et al) is coming to Iowa for the Danish Museum Reunion and then will go on to Ohio for the traditional one at Lake Erie.

I have heard from one other family about not being able to attend the Iowa reunion. Can I assume if you are not responding to the blog that you will call me to tell me your plans? It is time to find a motel for us to reserve. I need to know! 319-400-0688 or email jensen.judith@ iccsd.k12.ia.us

I just read a book about the dangerous and heroic work Danes did during World War II to protect many Jews and to resist their country's occupation by Germany. I felt so proud!

Little Evidence

Hello Family,
There is little evidence of interest in this year's Iowa Danish Immigrant Museum reunion to be held in July. (I am trying not to take it personally, so do not attribute any whining to me!) I know people are busy, some are technologically challenged and some may not be able to spare the time or energy to help us make plans. So we are making do with what information and interest we have:
The Jack Jensen tribe consisting of Brenda, Terry, Gary, Allen and Dale are considering coming, if we change the date from July 4th weekend to the weekend before the Ohio reunion.
The Bob Jensen tribe all agree and are fine with changing the date.

So, look to the right at the new time line. I will send out invitations next month with the correct date of July 15-17th on it. Please share this news with people who might be interested.

Remember as George burns said  "Happiness is having a large,
loving, caring, close-knit family in another city."

Become a member! Add a comment please!

Sent  postcards out this weekend to all for whom I had addresses. The postcard will direct family to the blog. I can see that several people have voted on the polls but only my daughter Lizzie has become a member. (Thanks, Lizz.) It is not hard to do, in fact, all you need to do is click on "become a member" and then follow the directions. I know we Danes are not always so good at following directions... being stubborn and all... but I need feedback from you. You can post comments after my posts.

Two things to do as members:
        1. give me addresses of others in your family and emails too
         2. answer this question: what do you think about holding the Iowa Reunion the weekend before Ohio so people who are travelling far distances can go from Iowa to Ohio with a little time in between?

So, let me hear from you please. Jude

Yes, we are also having the reunion in Ohio this summer too.

Douglas Harpel says to tell you all that the regular reunion, always held in Ohio, is going to happen also. The potluck reunion will be held on Sunday, July 24th at Lake View Park in Port Clinton.

For those of you who have been attending the reunion for many years, in the heat and swarms of mosquitos, we had it there last summer and rented the outdoor Shelter. We had lovely weather, which is on order for this year too, and it was fairly well attended. The lake was right there within walking distance. The food was good, as always. The company was so-so. Uncle Ron and Aunt Bea presided, with Gayle Harpel doing most of the work.

Douglas's phone number is 734-856-3352, if you want to check in with him about it or offer to help.More details will be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.

March 15th visit to the Danish Immigrant Museum

Today Pat Jensen-Bock and Jude Jensen, long-time sisters and Danes, traveled to Kimballton and Elk Horn Iowa to get a sense of the Danish Museum and surroundings. We toured the museum exhibits, chatted with several staff members, ate lunch at the Danish Inn and finally bought a metal plaque with our grandparent's names to be placed on the Wall of Honor. We were previewing this area for the July 2011 Jensen Reunion.

With this blog, we hope to involve family members in the planning and the reunion itself. After all, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of our family's arrival in America. They have yet to ask us to leave, most of us anyway.

Brenda Jensen Coates and Barb Jensen Reasner are also assigned the task of helping to create the Iowa Reunion this summer. We will need your understanding and support... and at some point a commitment from you who are able to attend.

Phone calls will be accepted by Jude at this number: 319-400-0688. Leave the others alone or respond by posting to the blog, thank you very much.
